Jack Whelan Elected to
Delaware County Council

John J. Whelan was elected to a four-year on Delaware County Council in 2005, and was administered the oath of office on January 3, 2006. Council has the authority to pass ordinances, resolutions and proclamations and to provide budgets and personnel to meet the needs of the people of Delaware County as they arise. It also mandates election of the District Attorney, Sheriff, Controller and Register of Wills, and has overall responsibility for all actions of county departments.

His areas of responsibility as a Councilman include the Recorder of Deeds, Tax Assessment, Tax Claim Bureau and Treasurer, as well as Risk Management and Consumer Affairs. He is County Council liaison to Community Transit, the Delaware County Housing Authority, the Office of Employment & Training and Workforce Investment Board, the Heritage Commission and the Board of Assessment Appeals.
